General Requirements
- Make the most of the riverside site - the riverside setting will greatly increase the use of any community asset on the site
- Revitalise Twickenham by increasing number of visits and spend
- Improve range of facilities available to local residents and visitors
- Find an alternative location for the riverside parking
- Take traffic away from the riverside
- Improve pedestrian access between King St. and the site
- Convenient access, parking and loading for Eel Pie Island
- Limited and proportionate housing but only to aid self-policing and as one of several funding sources
Two developments are at the heart of the Riverside Vision:
- Create an undercover car park at the rear of the site to displace over 70 parking spaces
- Create a town square directly connected to the river
A wide range of community assets could surround the town square. The following are shown in the Riverside Vision by way of example:
- Cafe
- Children’s play ground
- Open space
- Swimming pool with supporting exercise studio, dance studios, climbing wall, sauna, creche and cafe
- Multi-purpose community centre with workshops and direct river access - it could and should be commercially viable. Possible uses include exhibition area, clubs and society meetings, wedding receptions etc
- Steps down to river
- Fountain/Paddling pool
Clearly there are numerous options in terms of community facilities, the balance between open space and buildings, and sizes of individual buildings. All to be decided by the community.
